MBBS Abroad for Indian Students

A complete 2026 guide to studying MBBS outside India — eligibility, countries, costs, and the route back to Indian practice.
Every year roughly 17 lakh Indian students sit NEET for about 1 lakh MBBS seats. For thousands of qualified students, studying MBBS abroad — outside India — is the practical route to becoming a doctor: direct admission against a qualifying NEET score, English-medium teaching at WHO-listed universities, and total fees that are a fraction of an Indian private college. This guide covers who it suits, the eligibility rules, the countries we place students in, what it costs, and how you return to practise in India.

Who MBBS abroad suits

You have a qualifying NEET score but not a government-college rank
A ₹50 lakh–1.5 crore private-college fee in India is out of reach
You want an English-medium MBBS at a WHO + NMC-listed university
You plan to clear FMGE/NEXT and practise in India (or practise abroad)
Eligibility — and this is regulated, so it matters: to study MBBS abroad and later practise in India, an Indian student must hold a valid NEET qualification and an eligibility certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC). The foreign degree then qualifies you to sit the FMGE/NEXT screening test. We confirm your eligibility before recommending any university, so you never enrol on a programme that will not count back home.

What makes a foreign MBBS count in India — the NMC rules

Since 18 November 2021, the National Medical Commission's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations set out exactly what a foreign medical degree must look like for you to register and practise in India. It is worth knowing these before you choose a university, because a programme that misses even one of them can leave you unable to sit the screening test — so we check every shortlist against them:
The course runs for at least 54 months (about four and a half years)
You complete a 12-month internship at the same institution where you studied
The whole course, the internship and the degree are at one institution, in the country where the university is based — split or multi-country training does not qualify
The medium of instruction is English
The degree licenses you to practise medicine in that country, on par with its own citizens
Clear those, and the route home is straightforward: a valid NEET score and an NMC eligibility certificate before you travel, then the FMGE screening test — which the NMC plans to replace with the National Exit Test (NExT) once it is notified — followed by a 12-month internship in India. We only place students on programmes that meet these conditions, and we re-check them every admission cycle because the rules do change.

MBBS abroad / outside India — common questions

Is MBBS abroad valid in India?
Yes, provided you study at a WHO-listed university and meet the National Medical Commission's criteria — a valid NEET score and an NMC eligibility certificate — and then clear the FMGE/NEXT screening test. We only place students at universities that meet these conditions.
Which is the cheapest country for MBBS abroad?
In our network Kyrgyzstan is the most affordable at roughly ₹18–28 lakh for the full programme, followed by Kazakhstan (₹25–35 lakh) and Georgia (₹30–45 lakh).
Do I need NEET to study MBBS outside India?
Yes. For Indian students who plan to practise in India, a valid NEET qualification (and an NMC eligibility certificate) is mandatory both to study MBBS abroad and to sit FMGE/NEXT afterwards.
How much does MBBS abroad cost compared to India?
A full MBBS abroad in our network runs about ₹18–45 lakh all-in depending on the country. A private-college MBBS in India often costs ₹50 lakh to ₹1.5 crore.
What are the NMC rules for studying MBBS abroad?
Under the NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021, your foreign MBBS must run at least 54 months, include a 12-month internship at the same institution, be completed entirely at one institution in the country where the university is based (no split or multi-country training) and be taught in English, with the degree licensing you to practise there. You also need a valid NEET score and an NMC eligibility certificate before you travel. We check every university on your shortlist against these rules.
Is NExT replacing FMGE, and from when?
The FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is the current screening test that foreign medical graduates clear to practise in India. The National Medical Commission has announced the National Exit Test (NExT) as its eventual replacement, but it has not yet been notified into effect — so FMGE remains the exam you prepare for today. We keep your coaching aligned with whichever test is in force for your year.
