About the International Higher School of Medicine

The International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM), established in 2003 in Bishkek, is one of the best-known destinations for Indian students studying MBBS in Kyrgyzstan. Its English-medium programme draws a large Indian cohort each September, and the school has built its teaching and student-support systems around that international intake. Bishkek's low cost of living and the size of the existing Indian community make IHSM a common first choice for budget-conscious applicants.

Recognition & NMC eligibility

IHSM appears in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) — the WHO-linked listing the NMC looks for on the foreign-degree route. To use it, an Indian student needs to be NEET-qualified with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories) and hold an NMC eligibility certificate before departure; the degree then lets you sit the FMGE — moving to the NExT — and register in India, and also supports the USMLE and PLAB routes abroad. Because Kyrgyzstan is a popular, lower-cost destination, we are especially careful to match each student only to programmes that satisfy the NMC's latest criteria.

Fees & cost of living

IHSM's official tuition is front-loaded in the first year: roughly $7,500 in year 1, then about $6,000 a year for the remaining years of the programme. On top of tuition, hostel and mess come to around $2,150 a year and a medical and insurance fee adds about $200 a year. Day-to-day living in Bishkek is among the lowest of any of our destinations — most students manage on roughly $250 to $400 a month. We give you a clean, all-in breakdown and reconfirm the current figures with IHSM before you commit, so there are no surprises after you arrive.

How admission works at IHSM Bishkek

Apply with your documents — passport, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, NEET scorecard and around 10 passport photos
Document screening — IHSM reviews your file and eligibility
Conditional admission, then an official invitation letter issued once the host Ministry confirms your enrolment
Apply for the Kyrgyz student ('S') visa or e-visa on that invitation
Travel to Bishkek and complete on-campus registration
Main intake in September — seats fill early, so we start your file well ahead of the date
NEET is officially required at IHSM, and is the NMC's requirement for anyone who wants to practise in India

Campus & student life

Bishkek is a compact Central Asian capital where Indian students are a familiar presence, with a large and established South-Asian community to settle into. There is a direct Delhi-to-Bishkek flight of about 3 hours 20 minutes, so getting home is straightforward. The climate is continental — winters around −8°C, summers near 31°C — and the city is generally safe and easy to get around. Russian is the everyday language and street English is limited, so we help with the early settling-in: hostels, paperwork and the first few weeks. Living costs are among the lowest of any destination at roughly $250 to $400 a month, and our coordinator on the ground arranges airport pickup, hostel and registration so you are never navigating a new country alone.

IHSM Bishkek — common questions

Why do so many Indian students choose IHSM Bishkek?
It pairs a WHO-listed, English-medium MBBS with some of the lowest fees and living costs among our destinations, plus a very large existing Indian community — which makes the first year much easier.
Is IHSM recognised in India?
IHSM is WHO-listed, so graduates can appear for the FMGE/NEXT screening test after meeting the NMC criteria — a valid NEET score and an NMC eligibility certificate. We check your eligibility before you apply.
When does the intake start?
The main intake is in September. Seats at the popular Kyrgyz universities fill early, so we recommend starting the application well ahead of time.
Want IHSM Bishkek on your shortlist? Book a counselling call and we will confirm your eligibility, the current fees with the university and a realistic timeline for the September intake.
