About Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University

Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University is a state university (founded 1962) in Kokshetau, a quieter city in northern Kazakhstan; medicine is taught through its Higher School of Medicine, which launched its English-medium General Medicine programme around 2018–2020. It suits students who want a government university and a calmer, lower-cost setting away from the bigger cities of Almaty or Astana. The course is five years with an integrated clinical internship, taught in English — so the trade-off versus the larger Kazakh schools is mainly about setting and cost of living.

Recognition & NMC eligibility

Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), which keeps the Indian screening-test route open. The pathway is the same as for any of our partners: clear NEET with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories), obtain an NMC eligibility certificate before you go, complete the degree and integrated internship, and you are eligible to attempt the FMGE/NEXT and register with the National Medical Commission — with USMLE/PLAB as the route for students aiming abroad. Because the medical programme is relatively new, we confirm it meets the NMC's current rules for your intake before recommending it.

Fees & cost of living

Tuition is approximately $3,500 to $3,800 per year; because the university's brochure carries no fixed international fee, we confirm the exact current figure with you before you apply. Kokshetau is a smaller city, so living costs are lower than the big metros — around $350 to $450 a month for accommodation, food and everyday expenses.

How admission works at Kokshetau University

Apply with your documents — passport, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, NEET scorecard, passport photos and a medical / HIV certificate
Document screening, then a conditional admission with an official invitation letter from the university
Apply for your Kazakh student visa using the invitation letter, then travel and register on campus
The intake runs roughly July to August; we confirm the exact document list and dates with you
We apply NEET because it is the NMC's requirement for students who intend to return and practise in India

Campus & student life

Worth knowing before you go: Kokshetau has no direct flight from India — you travel via Astana (around 5 hours to Astana, then about 3 hours by train or road). Winters are genuinely cold, roughly −15 to −19°C, which is the biggest lifestyle adjustment; summers are short and warm at around 26°C. It is a smaller city with few standalone Indian restaurants (a trip to Astana for that), so students lean on the campus mess and self-cooking. Russian is the local language, living costs are lower at around $350 to $450 a month, and our coordinator helps with travel, accommodation and registration so you are supported from arrival.

Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University — common questions

Why choose Kokshetau over Almaty?
Mainly setting and cost: Kokshetau is a quieter, lower-cost northern city, while the programme and recognition follow the same Kazakh pattern. We help you weigh the trade-off on the call.
Is the medical programme recognised in India?
It is WDOMS-listed, so graduates can attempt the FMGE/NEXT screening test once they meet the NMC eligibility conditions — a valid NEET score and an NMC eligibility certificate. Because the programme is newer, we verify the current rules for your intake first.
What language is it taught in and how long is the course?
English-medium, five years with an integrated clinical internship.
Considering a quieter, lower-cost option in Kazakhstan? Book a counselling call and we will check your eligibility, confirm the latest fees with Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University and outline the admission steps.
