About the IHSM Issyk-Kul campus

The Issyk-Kul campus is the second site of the International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM, established 2003); the campus itself opened in 2017 at Cholpon-Ata, on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in eastern Kyrgyzstan. It runs IHSM's 5.5-year, English-medium MBBS — internship included — in a calmer, smaller student town than the capital. It appeals to students who want IHSM's programme and recognition in a quieter setting for the early, study-heavy years.

Recognition & NMC eligibility

Because the Issyk-Kul site is part of the International Higher School of Medicine, it shares IHSM's listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) that opens India's screening-test route. As always, you need to be NEET-qualified with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories) and hold an NMC eligibility certificate before you travel, after which the degree — 5.5 years including the internship — qualifies you to attempt the FMGE/NEXT and register with the NMC — or pursue the USMLE/PLAB route abroad. We confirm the campus and programme meet the NMC's current criteria for your intake.

Fees & cost of living

Because Issyk-Kul is a campus of the same institution, it follows IHSM's official fee structure: roughly $7,500 in year 1, then about $6,000 a year for the remaining years, front-loaded in the first year. Hostel and mess add around $2,150 a year and a medical and insurance fee about $200 a year. Living costs in the lakeside town run even lower than the capital — most students manage on roughly $250 to $400 a month, and Cholpon-Ata tends to be cheaper than Bishkek for day-to-day spending. We confirm the current figures with IHSM and give you a clean, all-in breakdown for your intake.

How admission works at IHSM Issyk-Kul

Apply with your documents — passport, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, NEET scorecard and around 10 passport photos
Document screening — IHSM reviews your file and eligibility
Conditional admission, then an official invitation letter issued once the host Ministry confirms your enrolment
Apply for the Kyrgyz student ('S') visa or e-visa on that invitation
Travel via Bishkek to the Cholpon-Ata campus and complete on-campus registration
Main intake in September — we start your file well ahead of the date
NEET is officially required at IHSM, and is the NMC's requirement for anyone who wants to practise in India

Campus & student life

Cholpon-Ata is a calmer lakeside town on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, a good fit if you would rather avoid a big-city pace while you build your foundation years. It is reached via Bishkek — about 4 hours by road from the capital. The climate is milder than Bishkek, moderated by the lake, with winters around −5°C and summers near 23°C. Living costs are even lower than the capital at roughly $250 to $400 a month. Day-to-day eating leans on the campus mess plus self-cooking, with fewer standalone Indian restaurants than you would find in a capital city, and Russian is the local language. Our coordinator helps with travel, accommodation and registration, and can compare both IHSM campuses side by side for you.

IHSM Issyk-Kul — common questions

How is the Issyk-Kul campus different from IHSM Bishkek?
It is the same university and programme, but in a quieter, lower-cost lakeside town rather than the capital. Many students pick it for a calmer environment in the early years. We can compare both for your shortlist.
Is the Issyk-Kul campus recognised in India?
As part of the WHO-listed International Higher School of Medicine, its graduates can appear for the FMGE/NEXT screening test once they meet the NMC eligibility rules. We confirm this for your profile first.
What is the intake and language of instruction?
A September intake, taught in English across the 5.5-year MBBS (internship included).
Not sure whether the Bishkek or Issyk-Kul campus suits you better? Book a counselling call and we will compare cost, setting and timelines side by side, and confirm your eligibility for both.
